Our philosophy
In Defense of Good Writing
Large language models (LLMs) excel at producing well-structured, grammatically correct sentences.
But good writing is more than good grammar. It has a unique voice. It tells a story. It evokes emotion. And at a bare minimum, it's easy to follow.
LLMs are mediocre writers. They produce sentences that seem profound on first read but say nothing. Empty flourishes pull readers away from the insight or information the content was supposed to convey. The same constructions show up again and again, until everyone starts to sound the same.
We built Slop Sentry to combat AI slop while supporting a meaningful role for AI in content creation.
What We Believe
We believe AI belongs in the workflow
AI can improve the speed and creativity of content creation — if you have the right source material. (Yes, we see that em-dash too. We're keeping it.) It can serve as a research assistant, a thought partner, a translator, a junior writer, or all of the above. It can repurpose great writing across formats and channels with far less friction.
What we don't believe in: wholesale content automation.
We believe substance has to come from somewhere real
Content without original insight is slop, even if it lacks the hallmarks of AI-generated writing. And that original insight needs a source. It can come from the writer, the client, real-world experience, novel data, or research. Transcripts and AI-led interviews are two of our preferred ways to capture insight, but they're not the only methods.
AI can't invent the missing thought. Neither can Slop Sentry. When the draft lacks insight, experience, evidence, or research, that's on you.
We believe writing quality matters more than authorship detection
Slop Sentry is an editorial tool. It evaluates and improves a draft regardless of how it was produced. It doesn't try to determine or prove whether AI wrote it. (And we'd argue that's a fruitless endeavor since all AI tells are borne of patterns in human writing.)
We believe human writers and editors are more essential than ever
Slop Sentry does not replace editorial judgment. It's intended to get you to a usable first draft without pulling your hair out.
You keep editorial control throughout. You have the option of running the complete Sentry, choosing one individual check, or applying a check to a single section. Editing is as iterative as you want it to be.
We believe scale and standards should rise together
An agency should be able to meet client expectations for volume and value while maintaining or improving the quality those clients already expect.
A marketer should be able to produce campaigns on condensed timelines without burning the midnight oil.
We want professionals to move from a real idea to content they are proud to put their name on, faster.
And we believe the best way to combat AI slop is to create content with a human soul, with or without AI's help.
